Kuchipudi

Dance of the Spirit

Is one of the seven classical Indian dance styles. Its origins are from a village in Andhra Pradesh, South India.Kuchipudis combination of smooth hand and body movement with fast footwork and strong facial expression make this style unique. Most of the dances tell stories from Indian history or mythology and are a way of expressing spirituality and devotion to the divine.

Each item consists of two parts: The slower Abhinaya part, where every movement every hand and finger posture, holds a meaning and tells a story; And the fast rhythmical Nritta part, the pure dance, which symbolises the eternal movement of the earth and the universe.
